The problem

Tower defense is a lasting genre, but most hits use combat themes, and many mobile entries lean on paid upgrades and energy timers. Maze-building, where players route enemies with their own walls, has only a handful of strong titles, mostly on PC. A calm theme and short premium runs can reach players who skip combat-heavy strategy games.

For: Tower defense fans · Cozy game players · Strategy players who want short sessions

Why now

Thronefall, a tower-defense hybrid from a two-person Berlin studio, had sold over one million copies by February 2025, and the maze-building tower defense Emberward left Early Access in September 2026.
