The problem

Balatro showed that a familiar card game plus rule-bending upgrades can reach millions of players. Solitaire is even more familiar, and only a handful of small games have given it roguelike progression so far. Players who like short, thoughtful card runs have many poker-style options and far fewer solitaire ones.

For: Solitaire players · Roguelike deckbuilder fans · Commuters who want short runs

Why now

Balatro had sold over 5 million units by January 2025, and its solo developer has said Klondike solitaire was arguably its most important inspiration.
