Karakeep

Karakeep is a bookmark-everything app that you can host yourself. You save links, short notes, images and PDFs; it fetches titles, descriptions and preview images for links automatically, archives full pages against link rot, reads text from images with OCR, and can tag and summarise your saves with a language model, including local models through Ollama. Saved articles open in a reader view with highlights, lists can be shared with collaborators, and full-text search covers everything you have kept, while RSS feeds can be saved automatically. Beyond the web app there are native apps for iOS and Android with offline reading, plus browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Safari. It was built by Mohamed Bassem, a systems engineer by day, after he moved his read-it-later habit from Pocket to self-hosting; the project was later renamed from Hoarder to Karakeep, and he remains by far its main contributor. It is open source under the AGPL-3.0 and runs with Docker, and a paid managed cloud version supports development. It suits self-hosters and anyone building a personal archive of things they want to find again.
