About Rhythm Quest
Rhythm Quest is a rhythm platformer played with just two buttons, jump and attack. Levels scroll forward on their own, and obstacles, enemies and gaps are timed to the music, so clearing a stage means reading the rhythm as much as the terrain. Wings give extra mid-air jumps, flight paths are held rather than tapped, speed zones change the rhythm, and palette shifts highlight different parts of each track across more than 30 levels in six worlds. All of the music is chiptune written by the developer, DDRKirby(ISQ), an independent game developer and '9-bit' chiptune artist, which lets every song be tailored to the mechanics it accompanies. The project started in late 2016 as a side project inspired by his earlier Ludum Dare game Ripple Runner, went through years of on-and-off work, and became his full-time job in mid-2021. The full game has no release date yet, but a free demo is available on Steam and is updated regularly, most recently to version 0.42.0 in August 2026, alongside a long-running series of development logs. The press kit lists PC, mobile and Nintendo Switch as target platforms. It suits rhythm-game fans and anyone who enjoys a tight, music-first challenge.
Why it is here: A solo musician-developer building a game where the soundtrack and the level design are literally the same work, with a public demo that keeps improving.
