About Windowkill
Windowkill is a twin-stick shooter that turns the game window itself into part of the arena. The play space keeps closing in around you, and the only way to keep room to move is to shoot the edges of the window and push them back out across your actual desktop. Enemies and bosses appear in windows of their own, so a busy run spreads several small windows over your screen at once. Runs use roguelike permadeath, with shop screens, upgrades and perks between fights, several characters to unlock and a local co-op mode. The game began as a Ludum Dare 54 entry built in under three days, where it placed second overall; its developer, torcado, then expanded it into a full release on Steam and itch.io in February 2024, with music by keestak. It suits players who like short, intense arcade sessions and anyone curious about games that play with the conventions of the operating system. Because it depends on moving real windows around, the Steam version runs on Windows and Linux but not on macOS.
Why it is here: A one-person project that grew from a three-day game jam into a polished commercial release, built around a genuinely new idea about what a game window can be.
